Learning to self-inject tirzepatide is easier than most patients expect. This step-by-step overview walks you through the process so you feel confident from your first dose.

Preparing for Your Injection

Before injecting, have ready: your tirzepatide vial, a clean syringe, alcohol swabs, and a sharps container.

Injection Steps

Step 1 — Select your site: Rotate between the abdomen, outer thigh, and upper arm. Never inject in the same spot twice in a row.

Step 2 — Clean and dry: Use an alcohol swab and wait for the area to fully dry.

Step 3 — Draw your dose: Follow your provider's exact dosing instructions.

Step 4 — Pinch and inject: Gently pinch the skin, insert at a 45–90 degree angle, and inject steadily.

Step 5 — Remove and dispose: Dispose of the needle in a sharps container immediately.

Tips for Comfort

  • Inject at room temperature — cold medication can sting
  • Relax the muscle at your injection site
  • Apply gentle pressure with a cotton ball if needed after injection
